art on salvaged wood

Original painting by Kristi Holohan of Oakland. This piece was completed on a piece of salvaged wood, which looks like a piece of plywood that became drift wood... The rounded corners look very naturally worn by water. Very nice use of metallic paint to create the golden skyline. $40

Illuminated Gas art

This is a beautiful piece of work by Dan Caven, who is an artist featured currently at Fernseed. He uses all reclaimed materials (trash ) (note paint can and large nail).  Dan is part of the Crucible and creates his own illuminated gas lamps for his art. I love this piece. Personally, I call it "Lady Justice Out of Balance." Incredibly beautiful. 750-

Mad love

This is my favorite of Dan Caven's work, currently featured at Fernseed. It is part of his Found Objects collection. The frame is a reclaimed broken window...

Why we love Dan? Because his mission is "to liberate paint, rescue trash, and illuminate gas--all at the same time, when necessary."

We heart reclamation artists.

To see more of Dan's work, please visit DanCaven.com.

1 of 1 original art is available for 450-

rock, paper, scissors

This series of three I named Rock, Paper, Scissors for very good reasons. Each piece has a very profound story behind each one. Instead of repeating too much info, you can read more about this on my Facebook Blog.

But to summarize, the first is a slate rock I found in a tree that was thrown hundreds of feet into the air because we dynamited our mountains to create freeways.

The second is reclaimed test tube of sand and rocks from Northern Colorado, but it was from a company that was either mining or testing our Earth. It's very old.

The third is from the same box of rocks I rescued right before it went to the landfill. This person drilled holes in some rocks... Which leads me to believe he was an archeologist or geologist. The domino was his pastime, obviously. He had all the drilling materials. That rock is crystal with either gold or pyrite attached... Interesting how those two can form together, given the requirements for them to develop.

No longer for sale.

wall art

Pre-own graffiti art by artist Curve of San Francisco. This one is called "Love," and it is quite funny. A bit on the R-rated side though, due to the tad of profanity used when describing his opinion on the topic of  love (I'm laughing as I am writing this). You must see it to understand why it's so funny. Originally purchased at a San Francisco gallery, the art is now available at Fernseed. $375

Left: Framed art created with vintage cards and reclaimed wooden frames. Hand-made by artist David Nyquist to express his view of an oiled war world. $45 each or $120 for the set.

stenciled art monkeys

Old vinyl records and beat-up clocks were reclaimed by artist Jeremiah Bal and repurposed into functional art clocks.  Each clock is hand-painted by the artist, making them unique. $75

No monkey business about these either. Sample tiles rescued from going to the trash and were individually hand-painted by Bal to create functional Monkey Art Coasters (set of 4 for $45), Monkey Flask ($18), and Monkey Graffiti Notebooks ($30-$60).

(sorry, we have no more monkey coasters available, for now.)

scrap metal art by David Nyquist

Fernseed welcomes David Nyquist, the latest artist to join our Art Project Reclamation team. David is a Dimond District artist who works with reclaimed and found objects, mostly with metal. David's first collection of work is now available for viewing and/or purchase at the Fernseed shop. More art and information about David to follow soon.

These 4-ft tall reclaimed metal art pieces are suspended from the ceiling using reclaimed ethernet cable. (As a practice, we try to use only reclaimed, outdated cables to suspend large art.)

Each piece is $375 or $1,200 for the set.

This is a portrait of Kai, painted on a wooden drawer base reclaimed from a discarded desk. Original Art Portraits by commission only.  Email us for more information.
