Jen Pearson is one of the most talented reclamation designers I've ever met. She takes all reclaimed materials (scrap wood, scrap glass, discarded lamps) and re-designs these things into beautiful art pieces. These are two standing lamps that are mismatched, but yet perfectly matched. Hand-made using 100% salvaged materials (except the light bulbs). $225

Fernseed tries very hard to support artists and designers who work with reclaimed or found materials.

belljar hurricane cactus terrarium

A random perfect fit: An heirloom cactus gifted by a Joaquin Miller resident sits inside a once-discarded votive holder, which then fits perfectly inside a candle slot on the metal base inside the glass cover. Also included are organic soil, new sand and new river pebbles.
A pre-owned, modern charcoal-black vase is decorated with Plum Blossoms, a traditional flower commonly used as part of Lunar New Years decorations, and in general, to celebrate Spring. Ceramic vase includes branches of Plum Blossoms. $12

This antique dresser was recently refurbished and refabbed. Sanded to remove surface scratches, and then stained to a mahogany red. Dovetail constructed drawers fixed so they glide effortlessly. Slight warping bottom of one drawer (really, not a big deal at all). Back of dresser a little rough and was not restored, because it is still fully functional (just not pretty. We figured you would prefer the lower price than the restoration on a part you will see very seldom). Walnut laminate over solid wood exterior. Solid wood interior unstained. 50" wide. 33" high. 18" deep. $145

Inside fernseed... as of today.

This vintage suitcase sits on legs from an antique director's chair. We repurposed the broken chair to create this side table. Two American-made items combined to create a very functional and attractive piece of furniture. Legs were stained to match suitcase.
Once a fuddy-duddy vintage cabinet with mismatched hinges and a broken handle... Doors swung wide, so did not work well as a hallway cabinet. Guess what? We removed the doors. Patched the holes. Stained the exterior red and stained the interior rustic orange. Coated it with polyurethane to make it water-resistant in case you spill a few drops of this or that. Solid Black Walnut (wood grain visual still intact). Measures 29.5" high x 36" wide. $175

Jewelry and valet boxes hand-made from a tree, which had to be cut down because the roots damaged the neighbor's foundation. This Oakland resident, Edmund Eng, decided to optimize the Black Walnut to create beautiful boxes, instead of using the tree for firewood.

These boxes are incredible. You will not be disappointed. From $55 - $200. (These would cost three times the price if from a department store, which would most likely be made in China using faux wood.)
